Our Vision
As an urban-serving institution dedicated to the people of the South Sound region, we envision a place where everyone has equitable access to educational opportunities to achieve their dreams, free from barriers of discrimination or institutional inequalities.
Our Mission
We foster meaningful and mutual partnerships that advance the transformative values of diversity, equity and inclusion in programming, professional development and community service. We offer educational and social support by developing culturally sustaining events and activities that create a sense of belonging and center the diverse needs of all our students, staff, faculty and community members.

Former AAPI THRIVE
The U.S. Department of Education ended several national grant programs for Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) nationwide, including funding for AAPI THRIVE. This change means that the grant funds, which helped establish and sustain the AAPI THRIVE program, will not continue. At the same time, the Department has approved an extension so that we may continue to use the funds we already received through September 2026. This will allow UW Tacoma to close out core grant activities between now and September of next year. For more information please write aapithrive@uw.edu
